Seams work best in kitchen utensils and gadgets

I use this about 2ft up my chimney on a Quadrafire 3100. It's nice to know if your chimney temp isn't too cold. It's quite sluggish, probably takes about 5 minutes to adjust to sudden temperature changes, but that doesn't bother me. Installation was easy. Just drill a hole and stick it in. Just don't forget to take it out when you're cleaning your chimney like I always do.
