Review on Compact Tabletop Ironing Board by Leifheit: Optimal AirBoard for Efficient Ironing by Len Cooper

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I don't regret spending the extra money on the Leifheit XL AirBoard Deluxe lightweight ironing board. The best design for tall people.

Size XL offers surprisingly good value for money. Bought from Revain in February 2016 after my husband flexed our 25 year old ironing board (not when ironing, mind you, but trying to be "useful" and put it away after I'd used it to iron his shirts, and it could not save quickly). Pros: The extra inches of height adjustment options are AMAZING for tall people. The extra inches of total usable board length is incredibly good for people with longer leg liners, those of us who occasionally iron sheets, scarves, tablecloths, or longer skirts/formal wear. not about stability on a thick carpet). While I don't sit when I iron, this design should make it more comfortable if you like to sit and iron. The board is very light for its size. I was skeptical that the foam-like sheet material would melt or shrink, but it didn't. I personally don't like the mottled butterfly design on the board cover. The darker and lighter shade shows through the fabric which sometimes makes it appear as if there are stains on the items. I would have preferred a plain cover in a neutral color (silver or taupe/grey, please) because my ironing board doesn't have to match my interior. And when ironing, I prefer the clean look of a hard case. IMO the solid color cap should be standard and the "decorative" caps should be interchangeable options. Cons: I was looking forward to using (and expecting to love) the detachable iron holder/stand. However, I found it awkward to attach and detach and gave up after two or three tries, finally pulling it out without sacrificing the surface area of the board. On the second try I obviously didn't fasten it properly and it suddenly detached - and threw the iron onto the floor (dents on the iron and on the floor). I didn't throw it away and I think I'll try again, but I didn't bother as I prefer a full length board with no stand at the end. Is it expensive. But after a year of use, I think the extra length and width saved me a bit of time, and over the course of a year I can say it was worth the extra cost to me - but maybe not if you do do. Under 5ft 6in or so tall - do not regularly iron large flat items (such as sheets, tablecloths or curtains) and/or if you primarily iron children's clothing or have short pants and short skirts. what i decided) was that because it was longer, it was too big to fit on my ironing board and iron holder "over the door" and hanging (so it could be stored on the inside of my closet door), loosened I did this by hanging 1" flat elastic cords on a couple of hooks above the door (spaced on either side of the iron holder and made loops for each leg of the iron on either side. To remove the board (to allow it to hang off the floor and against the in the door utility room), I lay the board on the floor and lean against the door, stretch one side of the bungee cord around one leg and then pull the other bungee cord around the other leg, whereupon it rises off the floor and hangs perfectly.

Pros
  • Cleverly shaped hem for a perfect fit on the shoulder and easy ironing of blouses and shirts
Cons
  • Blank
