I don't think many modern motherboards or cases require an option to use this adapter but I have a z390-h with 2 3.0 ports but my new case had it it a 3.1 socket. So I bought this, plugged it in, plugged in the cable and it solved my unique problem. If you absolutely need another Type-C connector on your motherboard and you have a free connector for it, then yes, it will come in handy in this situation as well.
