I rarely take the time to write reviews but I have been using these shelves for 2 years now and they are perfect for what they were designed for. We just bought our fourth kayak and I had no problem mounting all four on the roof of a 2007 Toyota Highlander (see photos). People who leave bad reviews are either using them incorrectly or tying their straps insecurely. For those who trip over it, the "T" structure is designed to push the kayaks against the rubber to prevent the kayaks from slipping. They don't technically tie kayaks to racks. It sounds paradoxical, but it's true; One day I learned to do it wrong. The straps must always be routed through the "T" and then back through the kayak(s). If you fasten them properly, they won't slip and wobble, even at 70 mph on the freeway. I don't even know they are there most of the time!
