Excellent quality and versatility

Buy this to replace the J-Brackets I couldn't park in the garage with them. I've pulled an 11 foot kayak about a dozen times (center bar down) and two 11 foot kayaks three times (center bar up). Several hundred miles on these trips. I attached the kayaks to the bow rope mount on the hood of my car using the straps provided as directed. I figured if I use two kayaks I also tie them together with good old ratchet straps that wrap around my pole. So far, so good!

As long as there is a higher price

I just installed and can't comment on durability yet. However, I was very impressed with the detailed installation instructions (especially in today's world of crappy installation instructions). Installation was very easy. It took me about forty minutes to take my time and make sure everything was done well. Very happy with the feel of the materials as they feel strong and durable. The kayak loads well and I like the plastic/gel grip materials to keep the kayak in place. I'm not crazy aboutโ€ฆ

Don't lean to the outline of the kayak

Installed on a 2014 Hyundai Santa fe GLS Their main drawback is that they don't pivot to the contour of the kayak side when you lay the kayak on its side. This creates an additional pressure point on the kayaks. It would be nice to have this feature where the part that the kayak sits on can rotate freely or be adjustable. The other issue I have is that the rising stem doesn't have spacers where my kayaks sit. Pelican Kayaks m100 by Costco. I'll prepare something to provide stuffing there. Theโ€ฆ

I don't know if I trust that.

I bought this shelf in 2018. I always get nervous carrying two kayaks on it. I have Pelican Kayaks 10ft. Last summer the kayaks came loose and wobbled a lot on my roof. I had a piece of rubber slip off last weekend, or it was just sitting on top of my Rhino case and just hanging on my belt (which was tight when we went). I don't know that the boxes have to face each other (which looks ridiculous) but boy I really don't want to lose my kayaks going down the road. Kayaks are not cheap and thatโ€ฆ

The plastic handle ripped off the nut

Updated 12/10/2018 I applied for a warranty and the sister company sent a solution. It is very nice. I still think they should redesign the handle and nut so they don't fall out. The plastic handle acts like a plastic wrench for a tiny nut. It might work, but the nut needs to be long and have more threads so the plastic can stick better. Up to 4 stars. The plastic handle has come loose from the nut and is no longer tightening the center bar in the correct position. It is poorly made and poorlyโ€ฆ

Absolutely perfect! 10/10

I rarely take the time to write reviews but I have been using these shelves for 2 years now and they are perfect for what they were designed for. We just bought our fourth kayak and I had no problem mounting all four on the roof of a 2007 Toyota Highlander (see photos). People who leave bad reviews are either using them incorrectly or tying their straps insecurely. For those who trip over it, the "T" structure is designed to push the kayaks against the rubber to prevent the kayaks fromโ€ฆ

I can finally load 4 full size sea kayaks with minimal effort.

I can finally load 4 full size sea kayaks with minimal fuss. As you can see from the photos, mine are mounted on the top of my truck making them difficult to get, but that is the nature of the truck. I'm still working on a better process, but for now I load the inner boats by lifting them onto the back of the bed and the outer boats by standing on a 5 gallon bucket. Pros: - Luggage racks come with extra long straps AND high quality rope to attach the bow and stern to the bumpers. In additionโ€ฆ
