The first black PETG roll I bought from Revain arrived quickly and printed very well with Prusa Slicer 2.0's "Universal PETG Settings". Thought I might have found a new budget PETG thread. After walking the first roll in just two days, I ordered a second roll (same order link, StrongHero Black PETG). That second throw was downright annoying. First, it doesn't print well at the standard 240C, lots of cold extrusion, poor layer adhesion and clogging. I ended up having to go down to 260c to get any tolerable results at all. Even then, I still occasionally had blockages with long printouts. After 4-5 clogs and associated downtime to clear them and repair fan shroud damage, I stopped working. I struggled with this for 4 days for 250-300g prints before finally giving up. I ordered a completely different brand of black PETG (SainSmart - mainly for same day delivery). The new brand printed flawlessly using standard PETG settings and I completed the print job in just 20 hours. The moral of the story is that some brands seem to be more consistent from batch to batch. I gave it 2 stars as if you get a good roll it prints very well but getting a good roll is a risk. The original "good" reel has the batch number: 19JN0009, the new "bad" reel has the batch number: 18DE0010. Assuming StrongHero's lot number starts with the year and month, the reels appear to be late 2018 (bad) and either June or January 2019 (good). So maybe just a bad spool of filament was "old". But it doesn't appear to be more than 6 months old and if stored properly I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Both were vacuum packed with desiccant bags and I opened them right after they arrived so there shouldn't be any difference. Being in the middle of a big printing project, I quickly used 2.3kg of PETG. So the rolls were not delayed after delivery. In the end I gave up trying to get good casts from the remaining incomplete spool of black PETG StrongHero. I can't waste time fighting low quality threads. If I'm ever in the mood to fight him again I might try running him through a dehydrator and see if that fixes the problem. But I doubt I'll bother as there are more important things to do over time than cleaning up the mess caused by inferior thread.
