Review on ICON RV Skylight - SL1422W - White by Luckie Davidson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good quality, thicker than OEM, larger flange, covers old screw holes, perfect smoke color.

RV. A recreational vehicle is actually a vehicle that requires constant maintenance. The skylight on our 2006 fifth wheel was faded and opaque from years of exposure to the ultraviolet sun in southern Oregon. Recent hail made me worried it might break, usually at night during a storm many miles from home on the first night of camping (then something breaks) so after reading a lot of reviews I settled on the ICON. They seem to be the highest rated "parts industry". Arrived very quickly, well packaged in a strong box, but after removing the old OEM skylight I found that ICON is a more durable plastic than the original OEM. I also liked that the ICON flange was slightly larger than the old one, covering all the old screw holes on the original. There were also more pre-drilled screw holes that better distribute clamping force. Obviously the screw holes don't line up, but that's preferable as I'd rather have new new screw holes with ICON's new butyl sealant to ensure a good and strong seal. I absolutely hate RV leaks and I could imagine the entire roof falling off long before the skylight leaks! The smoke color is perfect, filtering out just enough sun to make the bathroom shower bright enough while still filtering out the harsh summer heat. The sky is clear - I haven't seen it in years with the old, the new, now we can see the stars at night even if they're the color of smoke. Need to replace our truck skylight, ICON will definitely use again. Because the installation was so easy, about an hour, it didn't scare me anymore. You must use an ICON-approved sealant—otherwise, other brands' chemicals can degrade, becoming brittle and cracking the plastic. I will buy again.
