Relatively easy to install, especially if the holes are pre-drilled to the correct size. If not, you need to be careful as they are more sensitive to more size and positional accuracy than I expected. I bought a few of these as well as a privacy version to replace all of my old interior buttons. I prefer this type of mushrooms to the feel of the old ones, which also got pretty boring (in an uncorrectable way). However, this is only a matter of taste. I will say that they are light compared to the old pens and therefore feel flimsy. After installation, I had issues with some of them getting stuck rotating one way or the other, so I had to redo about one out of four of them. All I did was straighten them out a little, although it took a little effort and measurement to do so. As I love the finished look and they work well now I believe it was a typical DIY adventure where absolutely everything was NEVER as easy as promised and took at least twice as long as it should. Would give another star if they looked more solid and one more if installation was less of a hassle as each of them had to be sanded extra to fit the old holes and I had to redo some of them. Bottom line: I suspect they'll suit the average homeowner with newer doors. I don't think the lock version would give me a secure feeling for the outside door due to the illusory feeling, but I didn't need them for this purpose, only the inside door versions.
