We have tested all fuses, thermostat and heating element. Everything checked out fine. It remains to check the timer and the engine switch. Initial testing of the timer seemed to show it was working, but upon further reading we checked the timer on each cycle and only got intermittent heat on one cycle (maybe that's why it passed the test well). Then it didn't get warm on this cycle either. Finally, it was accidentally discovered that if you press the timer button and start the cycle, it heats up very well. So we thought it was the timer so we bought that, installed it and now the dryer works fine. I wrote this in hopes it will help other intrepid DIY enthusiasts. We read many articles saying that the timer was bad and our testing ability is pretty low, but we managed to fix the problem.
