The trick to installing this fitting is to make sure all the old plastic parts are removed (use a small pick like a dentist would) and then wipe the service down with a wool cloth. Prepare the fitting with petroleum jelly (petroleum jelly or lip balm). This makes installation easier as it provides lubrication that does not stretch the o-ring. Oil and other products WILL expand the o-ring and make installation difficult without damaging the o-ring.
