I was lucky enough to try this device at the perfect time, a stray cat that I feed often brought two newborn kittens into a small shelter I have outside. She is a good cat but she has stray cat habits when away for hours. I have given her a safer home in my kennel where the kittens now sleep. I don't think the kittens are old enough to notice her going away but I gave them this pillow anyway to make them more comfortable. I'm not sure if kittens like the heartbeat like puppies, but I guess it's not a big deal if they don't as it's pretty thin. The pad is not very big, but big enough for small breed puppies or kittens. The heartbeat device is detachable and about the size of an Altoid can and uses two AAA batteries, which are included. Heartbeats are normal, but since the device pocket is on the side of the lining, you should keep children around. Heartbeat continues for 8 hours after power on or can be turned off manually. I really like that the rug is available in medium and large sizes for almost the same price. In general, a pillow is quite useful in certain scenarios, I'm not sure if it will be essential for pets.
