I used Second Skin Dampifier (40 mil) premium auto soundproofing material - butyl rubber to reduce noise from the rear of my 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hatchback. At a speed of over 80 km/h, it was difficult for the people in the back seat to follow the conversation in the front seat. After some research, I found that it's not uncommon to hear a rumbling sound coming from the trunk of a car because manufacturers skimp on soundproofing. This also applies to the tailgate of the Hyundai Ioniq. Apparently, one reason for this noise is that the metal starts to vibrate at certain speeds and it can get quite loud. Anyway, my research also led me to purchase the 2nd Skin sound deadening material described above. I was very impressed with how easy this 2nd skin product was to install in the spare wheel well under the tailgate floor. The material cuts easily with crappy scissors that I almost stopped using. I dry install each part, cutting where necessary, such as around the bracket where the spare tire bolts on, and any places that may require mechanical access in the future. I bought a box of 2nd skin stuff and it was enough to do the entire spare tire area, just the spare tire area. Each piece was rolled out according to the instructions of various Youtube videos by various 2nd Skin installers and other soundproofing product manufacturers. It took me exactly an hour to get the job done and then another 10 minutes or so to assemble and set everything up. Spare wheel and gearbox back to the car. After that, we took a ride and the noise we heard became very noticeable. The front passenger could easily overhear the conversation being held in the front seats. At some point in the future I may stun the inside of the right and left tailgate side panels. I expect the back seat to be even quieter. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this product, its ease of use and most importantly it solved my noise problem with minimal cost and time.
