About $20 more than the base tube, I decided to use this instead of the 10" tall tube which is very similar to what the machine came with. I chose the CloudRay tube because, firstly, it has a metal head. After about 3 years of using my old tube, the head broke right at the end and the laser lost most of its power. Secondly, I bought some mirror mounts from them a while back and found them to be excellent quality. So far I think I made the right choice. When I first plugged in the tube, I couldn't get it to light up. I have been very careful with my wiring, using properly crimped connectors for heat shrink tubing etc. I also replaced all of my cooling lines with slightly larger 7mm ID silicone for a little more flow. I knew I had everything hooked up correctly, so I was pretty confused. Luckily I found that there is a test start button right on the power pack, which when pressed starts the handset. Turns out my water pump had fallen into the bucket and pinched the pipe. The water was flowing and I could see it flowing through the pipe, but it was too slow to activate the flow switch. Well at least I know it works! After a rough tuning, the tube delivered really great results - better than ever. With the previous tube to cut 1/8" birch plywood I ran the machine at 25% power and 8mm/s. With the new CloudRay tube I get really clean cuts at 20% power and 12mm/s speed .When installing the tube, I also added an ammeter to the machine.20% power is exactly 9mW for this tube.Very well within the specs.I'm curious to see what I can do if I increase it to 12-15MW. Remember my machine is fine tuned if your numbers aren't up to this level I added a full pneumatic drive with a pull chain, upgraded gold mirrors and holders, a depth adjustable cutting head with a much larger and better focusing lens, a full honeycomb platform, an angle mount that aligns the work piece with the house, etc. etc. d. If you want I'm interested in the red connector that comes with the hose, in fact the whole connector just slides off. It's simply a large two piece connector designed to cover a high voltage cable connection. I used a red marine heatshrink splice to connect the high voltage wire, which slipped perfectly into the connector provided by CloudRay, making it very, very secure. I only have 1 complaint about the handset but it is very minor. I wish they would provide a longer ground wire. The connected cable is not long enough to return to the electronics compartment, so the splice connector is visible in the hose compartment. never mind Choose this. Definitely seems like a nice upgrade from $20 more. If it breaks early or misbehaves I'll come back to update my review but for now I'm pretty happy with my purchase.
