Review on πŸ”§ US-Made CHANNELLOCK 430X 10-inch SPEEDGRIP Tongue & Groove Pliers: Straight Jaw, Forged with High Carbon Steel by Erik Peterson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sturdy design, unusual locking mechanism

I really like the thickness of these pliers and the high quality silicone grips. Cross grooves cut at the top and bottom give the pliers a good grip and this 10 inch size can grip a variety of nut sizes well. The grip is much better than expected with this type of pliers. They open up to 2 inches fully open. The locking mechanism is the only thing I'm unsure about on these pliers. The button is easy to operate even with gloves on, but I'm not sure how durable it will be in the long run. So far it seems fine with minimal play once it's engaged, but I'm concerned about heavy use over time. Of course I like that they are made in the USA and I expect Channellock to replace them if the locking mechanism ever fails as they have a limited lifetime warranty on this tool. It doesn't cover normal wear and tear, but I believe it will cover a fancy button mechanism. An interesting feature of these pliers compared to traditional channel locking pliers is the range of motion they have. Once snapped in, they only open and close slightly, not quite like the older models. It took a little getting used to, but it's a nice feature that prevents your finger from being pinched if it slips during use. I'm happy with them overall, and aside from my slight concerns about the knob mechanism, they're well built and so far I've had no trouble tightening and loosening old hardware.

Pros
  • SAFE-T-STOP prevents finger pinching
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
