Review on ๐Ÿ”’ 6950P Billet Fuel Door - Enhanced Sales Optimization by Jeff Wells

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Looks good, be patient when installing

This fuel door is a great modification that I was able to add to my 2008 Expedition with patience and care in under an hour. (I have included photos of my project in the product images for reference.) There are two styling options for this truck; The 6950 you're looking at right now, and the 6050, which looks more like a Steve McQueen "Bullitt" with torx screws around the edge of the door ring (also called racing style I think). The 6950 had a more finished and retro look and I didn't want to pose at any traffic light as a duel seeker with the Tundra or the Silverado! As for the time for installation; I'm a father of four and have little time for a truck that breaks under the pretense of being "worked on" just to improve the look, so I had to keep this thing going without pulling out an arsenal of power tools . The nuts and bolts that attach this fuel filler flap to the body are very small, and the fuel filler flap area is even smaller! There's also a thin opening on the right side in the fuel filler flap area where, unless you pack a paper towel, tiny nuts and washers will fall off and get lost between the body and the lower rear quarter. panel fascia. (More like a technical manual, isn't it?) The instructions are simple and require you to take the time to use your common sense: trial fitting of items like the firing pin, which must be adjusted BEFORE bolting it to the body. The main problem is the extremely cramped workspace and the small gaps you only find when the nut and washers magically disappear as they fall into the very shallow cavity of the fuel hatch. As for the two massive threaded studs that actually hold the door and outer ring to the body, my studs had to be "cut" in the holes as the holes were a bit further apart than the studs were on the part. . Again, patience and a firm, even pressure, and the pins could be persuaded without snapping the threads. You will adjust the "flatness" of the door (that's not a real word, is it?) in relation to the body of the truck by turning two setscrews that can only be accessed by removing the door you just lured in holes that were just too wide, but are now learning to live with a little "expansion". In summary; makes testing my already short patience a little more difficult? Yes indeed! Need to take out tools other than a screwdriver and a torx driver? nope! Now, does the expedition stand out in a subtle but stylish (masculine) manner against the background of others? Definitely! I hope this "minefield map" of installing this 6950 blind door will help you in your quest to add some personality to your expedition!
