Retains odor after use

I originally bought these to freeze food while cooking. I meant ginger and garlic, these bowls have tiny cubes. Too small for the ginger but the garlic worked. I used two to freeze the garlic, it was sticky but kept its shape and I was able to flex the tray to completely remove each piece one at a time (it took a while). However, the smell of garlic did not go away. They retain their smell when you freeze anything other than water.
