What the Heck Happened to Metcal? They used to be the best. Eventually, they decided to "get smarter" and regulate the amount of heat hitting the tip. Bad move by Metcal. For now even the solder cannot be melted. Even the new Metcal doesn't work well. Even their tip with a high heat load of 800 degrees does not melt the solder. Yes, and from time to time he chooses to switch off. So you have to switch the device on and off constantly for both tips to work again. Don't make the same mistake I did and buy a new Metcal. Unless you need a very expensive paperweight.
