The ZEN of GARDENING (bonsai)

Yes, they consider bonsai care a type of zen activity in Japan. If you are going to relax, contemplating the inner ancient tree, hiding in your 7 year old Bonsai plant, then you are going to require the proper tools for the job. These are those tools. The long taper on the clippers, allows you to cut between the openings of the outer branches, reaching the inner branches without disturbing the soft growth in the outside of the tree. The large handled snippers has the torque to break thru thick branches of a young bonsai plant, while fitting comfortably in your hands. And there are snippers for the size between those two as well. Also, there are two thick branch clippers. The flat one is for cutting thru the thickest of branches, leaving a flat wound behind. The concave cutters, allows you to cut into the trunk, so you dont leave any residue of branch marring the smooth taper of the trunk. It also cuts into the trunk, for other sculpting work required when making a trunk looked age worned and decayed. The thick round bamboo broom isnt for lightly dusting off last season's drop of leaves from your dirt, but rather for cleaning dirt and residue from your pot. (I tried to beat it, soak it, and cut it to look like a wide, soft broom, until I realized it wasnt THAT kind of broom.) These are new tools, and perfect for all but the most professional of Bonsai enthusiast. If you use these exclusively for your bonsai plants (and maybe occasionally for your other house plants), they will last forever. However, if you try to use them several hours a day on all your outdoor plants, hedges, etc, then they would probibly not last that long. Bonsai tools are designed for bonsai plants, and if you care for more than one or two plants, or ever want to make your own bonsai from nursery plants, etc, then you will absolutely NEED these tools. I'm more than satisfied with this purchase.

Pros
  • Exactly as mentioned
Cons
  • The pruning shears are not rust-resistant, potentially causing them to corrode over time
