When properly adjusted, this collar makes an excellent dog training aid. Make sure you use the correct size collar for your dog. The collar should be placed under the dog's jaw and just behind the ears. If the collar is too loose, it will be less effective in correcting the dog's position. Use the smallest recommended connector size, this gives you more room for adjustment and offers more points of contact with your dog's neck. Our 9 month old Border Collie/Husky responds very well to training with this collar. He knows it's time to exercise or go for a walk when we put the collar on and he's ready to listen. The collar is a great tool to get your dog focused and following instructions. We like the full loop design of this collar over the quick release style as there is less risk of the collar coming loose on its own. This type of collar should only be used when walking or exercising with a leash. It should not be worn when the dog is off leash or playing as there is a potential choking hazard with this type of collar. A stainless steel collar is slightly more expensive, but the links stay clean and won't stain your dog's coat like plated metal collars. Our dog has white fur on his neck so we went with the stainless steel option.
