Review on πŸŽ₯ Unleash Ultimate Cinematic Precision with ProMaster Specialist SPCH20 Cine Head by Duy Desperado

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Almost as it should be.

The fit, workmanship and overall quality of the head is very good. I have many ball heads and fluid heads as I have been involved in photography and videography for many years. The general build quality of this head appears to be on par with some of the much more expensive branded units from Manfrotto and others. The fluid resistance/pan and tilt action works very smoothly (with one caveat). The spotting scope I use is an old Nikon 82ED Angled and it weighs over 4.5 pounds. With that much weight, the tilting fluid drag is mostly overcome, and the frictional drag is left to dampen the motion, which isn't as smooth as the actual fluid drag you'd get in a more solid head. A lighter scope, most likely, will not cause such serious problems with the mechanism. The actual weight of the head is an issue as my total weight with the platter was 17.5 ounces and without the platter was 15.4 ounces. Listed weight is 14.4 ounces, so the whole thing is just over 3 ounces heavier than advertised. I have no idea how they came up with the stated weight? I decided to try this head, mainly focusing on price and weight. Weight failed (no pun intended). Overall I'm happy with the purchase so far, but I'm not feeling as good as I was hoping. I have yet to field it and spend a few hours behind its glazing, so I intend to report back when I do. For the price, I still think it's going to be hard to beat this head. The time will show. Edit: I should note that the scale I use to weigh my head is a very accurate electronic one, for which I have various known weights to verify the weight that I can use to confirm accuracy. Accuracy within 0.1 oz. Update 9/10/20: I've been using this head for a while and have decided to return it for an exchange. Tilt damping was so negligible that it almost felt nonexistent. I was hoping it was just a bad head, but the second head is no better. I keep it to myself anyway as I can't find anything easier or cheaper. I just need to learn to work with almost negligible tilt damping. I have two other pan and tilt heads, both Manfrotto, so I'm not without comparison on what a good head should be. The smaller of my two Manfrottos is the MHXPRO-2W, which weighs about 12 ounces more than the SPCH20. 12 ounces is enough to make me live with the cons of SPCH20. The damping of the MHXPRO-2W is simply outstanding!
