Review on πŸ”Š M12 Lithium-Ion Cordless Jobsite Radio/Bluetooth Speaker with Built-In Charger (Tool Only) - Milwaukee 2951-20 by Adam Nelson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A well-made construction site radio, good tuner and BT connectivity.

Milwaukee have released a nice little compact portable radio/bluetooth speaker with good volume and powerful sound for its size. The highs and mids are excellent and have good definition and dynamics on the tracks I've sampled from the artists. such as Adele, Lady Antebellum, George Strait, Michael Jackson, Jordyn Sparks, John Mayer, Jason Derulo, etc. OTOH mid-bass is acceptable while sub-bass is somewhat lacking. I've tried tracks from TI, Kanye, Rick Ross, Ice Cube, LMFAO, etc. Remember this is a workplace radio, not a boom system. But once you get below 250Hz it won't work well. It can receive audio via USB port from mobile devices as well as Bluetooth, and the BT range is exceptional, even through walls. 30-40 feet or better. FM QUALITY - Excellent 60 mile station decoding on 6 inch rubber antenna. Fidelity is again good, with a bit of a lack of deep bass, although the mid-bass on the radio seems slightly better than the BT.AM tuner and sounds good even with strong signals. I tuned in to a few local stations and they sounded great. Anyone who likes talk radio will be happy with this radio. I would say 30 miles is a good range estimate for this unit for most mid to low power stations 5kw and below. It would be a good radio on the beach or in the back door to listen to the game. Another cool feature is the ability to pop in a couple of AAA batteries to save the clock and your presets when it's unplugged and the battery isn't connected to the charger. I think it's a nice touch. Just remember to change them regularly to keep them from leaking. Now for what I would change. This unit is powered by a 12V 1A wall mounted transformer which is a weakness in my opinion. At that price, they had to fit a transformer into the unit and power the unit directly from the 110V mains using either a standard Panasonic power cord or an IEC power cord. This would allow the included charger to be a fast charger instead of a regular speed charger, and would also prevent the problem of a wart on the wall covering more than one outlet on the strip. and it would make the device as a whole more useful because you could fit a couple of AC pass-through sockets into the device. You could even do it where the AC input cord was permanent and just wrapped around a groove on the bottom of the unit. Or store in a compartment on the bottom of the device. I think these were all missed opportunities on the part of the manufacturer that could have easily been incorporated and made this tool much more useful than it is. $79 I didn't realize that additional features would be required, but for $130 I would expect those extras. I'm keeping mine because I think it's a really nice little radio and I need a battery operated radio in case of an emergency. At $79 I wouldn't think the extra functionality would be necessary, but at $130 I expect it to be some sort of add-on. I'm keeping mine because I think it's a really nice little radio and I need a radio that runs on batteries in an emergency. other jobsite radios, because that's why I didn't invest in those other devices. And I didn't want to buy a different type of battery just for my radio. Any battery of size M 12, even 6.0 Ah, fits in this radio, not just the small one shown in my photos. However, I believe larger devices will take a long time to charge at the slow speed of this charger. When I bought my original M 12 tools I got 1.5Ah batteries for free, so I'm planning on using them for my radio because I really don't use them for anything other than a small screwdriver. I think if you have already invested in the M 12 system then this is a good solution for you if that is what you are looking for. If you are investing in an M 18 system or a system from another manufacturer, then this product is not good enough that you should keep it as the only product in that system. I think if you have already invested in the M 12 system then this is a good solution for you if that is what you are looking for. If you are investing in an M 18 system or a system from another manufacturer, this product is not good enough to keep as the only product in that system. That being said I think it makes a great emergency radio when paired with a 4 or 6AH battery that stays in and keeps charging. At low volume it will run for quite a while on a larger battery and since it runs off a 12v outlet you can easily make an adapter to charge it from your car whilst making a car charger for your drill batteries. .In summary, I think that most people will be satisfied with their purchase and will enjoy their small radio for a long time.
