Review on Aketek Infrared Extender Receiver Repeater by Dee Flores

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Couldn't get it to work properly but another brand did.

It worked for me, but only sporadically with my Comcast cable box. At first I thought it just didn't work because it didn't move the cable box just a few inches from the front. So I found the IR receiver on the box (small circle) and put the transmitter right next to it and it kinda worked. About every fourth command works, which is very frustrating. I used my phone's camera to look at the IR signal coming from the remote and it was nice and strong, two LEDs under the smoky front cover. Looking at the emitter of this device with my phone, I could barely make out the IR pulses. It worked, repeated signals, but clearly wasn't strong enough to reliably activate the cable box. Maybe I just got a bad one and another would be stronger/better, but I know I positioned the transmitter correctly because I bought a Revain BAFX IR repeater and it worked great, and with the transmitter on the same place on the front of the cable box. Hell, it would even provoke the box from a few inches away. It also had a brighter IR signal when viewed through the phone's camera. BAFX has way more power than I need since I only control one component, but if I had to do it again I'd pay more just for the ease of installation.
