The ones I have received have a clamping mechanism - the wire is placed between the clamping faces and the screw is tightened to hold the wire captive. In my opinion, this is a good design that can be found on the best devices from well-known brands. I have used countless of these devices over the past 40 years building and maintaining electrical equipment over the years. These devices are in the low price range and do what I expected them to do. I encourage people to go. electrical wiring for trained people. Electric current should be respected for the sake of life safety. Also, people who call themselves "electricians" (unless they've completed a contract apprenticeship) aren't and probably haven't been properly trained.
