I had a crack in the ceiling that required slats. I ended up with a 20 foot joint that needed filling and sanding. I used a 45 minute bar. I have found that working with a ceiling is much more difficult than with a vertical wall. After a lot of swearing and fuss I was ready to sand, and at that point I discovered how messy the ceiling work was - dust was everywhere and there was a lot of dust. I taped a plastic tarp from ceiling to floor and it worked, but it was painful and didn't help much. The composition is harder than "putty" and requires a bit of sweat to grind. I got this device, a sanding net with about 100 grit, and attached it to our Dyson vacuum cleaner. I attached the hose to the rack that the vacuum goes through to the head. I found it very comfortable and almost completely dust free. I open the adjustment ports and use the slightest vacuum. It works great. I had to spend extra time cleaning the Dyson (which is designed to be easily disassembled and cleaned). My shop vacuum was too powerful and it was difficult for me to move the sanding head.
