Review on Tokina AT-X PRO DX 11-16mm Ultra-wide Angle Lens for Nikon - AT-X116PRDXN by Linda Salinas

Great for the price especially for 4K video with a high crop factor

I used this lens to shoot wide angle shots with a Nikon DSLR at a 2.25x crop factor for 4K - Make videos. With this crop, an 11mm lens (equivalent to about 25mm) really comes in handy, especially with the aperture wide open. I needed this for a very specific indoor shot where I was sitting on the floor and photographing a subject in the foreground and there was a lot going on in the background. The room was relatively dark and there wasn't enough room to add light, so a large aperture and the ability to manually focus on the background from the front were required. I was honestly surprised by the quality of the lens for the shot. Price. I had some tricky issues with the autofocus (you pull out the lens ring next to the hood mount to toggle autofocus on/off), but just fiddling with it got it working. Also, I still used manual focus after the autofocus system established the initial focus point. The manual focus ring is fine and the lens is so small that I was able to hold it in my hand (well, on my lap) and the shot looked very stable. Overall excellent value for money. AF seemed a little odd, but maybe I'm just not used to this type of activation. I shot wide open and got great video that is no different from the thousand dollar lenses I used for the rest of the shoot. Please note I didn't take any photos of it so I can't comment on it.
