Good idea, bad quality

Good idea, but requires a lot of work. In general, it's very cheaply made. The wood is relatively thin. The gate had splinters both at the top and bottom where the spindles made contact with the handrails. The quality of the wood used made me doubt its ability to withstand the pressure of a child pushing the gate when one of the hooks is not fully engaged. The button, which can be pressed "with one hand" on the locking mechanism, appears to be made of thin sheet metal. Since the button isn't easy to press (and creaks), she started to fall asleep after just a few uses. The locking mechanism itself is held in place with rivets instead of screws. This would not have been a problem, except that ours was loosely attached to the gate and could not be tightened. As a result, the entire mechanism went down every time we pressed the unlock button. This caused the upper "hook" part of the mechanism to enter the eye hole, preventing the gate from opening. The clips holding the two halves of the gate do a poor job of holding the two halves in place. Every time we lifted the gate to release the bottom hook, the entire gate slipped. Every time we wanted to close and latch the gate it was too short to reach the eye hook and had to be adjusted. Two-handed operation is definitely required. You can close and switch on most children's gates yourself. Due to the nature of the locking mechanisms and the fact that the bottom hook must be engaged by hand, this gate cannot be easily closed. With MANY modifications, replacing the locking mechanism, sanding, and adding screws to the top and bottom rails, we were able to adapt this to our purpose - a dog gate that 5, 7, and 9 year olds can operate independently.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.
