Review on Dorman 800 660 Repair Tool Body by Bill Lyons

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good idea, questionable implementation.

(same review posted for related connectors) Good idea but didn't work for my plumbing problem. The hose must fit snugly into these connectors or the gasket will not hold pressure. The tubes purchased are the correct dimensions but the normal A/C aluminum tubes that come in Engine compartments used differ slightly in outside diameter and this can severely affect the seal of the connector If you buy the right size Dorman aluminum tubing to splice or replace the original sections it will likely seal as the Dorman Pipe tighter on. OEM pipe in air conditioners doesn't do this. The bottom line is, it may or may not work. These connectors are still easy to find, but there are fewer and fewer tools to use them and I think the reason is that the chance of a successful seal is low. It was worth a try but it didn't work for me. I think compression fittings with soft seals might be the best solution. Good tool but may not work in all situations. Connectors and hoses with different diameters require different jaws. Hard to find.

Pros
  • Crimp and compression connectors available in five different sizes: 3/8", 5/16", 5/8", 3/4" and 1/2".
Cons
  • Off fashion
