I bought this food after reading a reputable website recommending low carb keto solutions for overweight dogs. I mean keto worked for me so why not for my dog. My 13-year-old beagle gained some weight, partly because she had hip problems and couldn't walk much, and partly because I couldn't feed her off my plate. . But I had to do something because the more she gained weight, the more immobile she became and the less she wanted to walk. It's kind of a cycle, and I had to break the cycle. My local pet store didn't have this food or any other low carb options, which came as a bit of a surprise, so Revane came to the rescue. I've been feeding her this food and some cooked chicken with no food off my plate for about a month and I can see her slowly losing weight. At first she only ate chicken, but realizing there would be no treats in her future, she later went back and ate dog food. So I added some warm water to the mix and it was a little more receptive to change. That doesn't mean she doesn't like the new dog food - she did the same with her old dog food. It took her a while to realize that there were no other options. And it's pretty sweet, to be honest, not making her beg for food when I eat now. She's definitely more flexible, but she's still having trouble walking, so I'll be putting her on a glucosamine supplement soon. However, I won't be keeping them with this meal indefinitely because of the price. I'll probably take another bag and then give her back another quality senior food I can buy locally. My dog loves our trips to the pet store, so I don't want to deprive her of this simple pleasure. And now that we've developed better habits, there's no longer a need to keep them on a ketogenic diet. Ultimately I would definitely recommend this food to anyone who has an older dog that needs to lose some weight. Or any adult dog for that matter. And if the price doesn't bother you, this is an all-around good dog food.
