Review on πŸ“‘ High gain directional panel antenna - Alfa APA-M25 Dual Band with RP-SMA Connector (10dBi) - Compare to Asus WL-ANT-157 by Micheal Wright

Works great and saved my lost RC airplane model.

I modified a Spectrum DX8 Gen 2 RC transmitter to have two SMA connectors for Uses high gain Wi-Fi antennas like this one. I am using this patch antenna as a secondary 2.4GHz antenna but it works fine for receiving video for 5.8GHz stations. I always get excellent reception on both bands with this antenna, but I have found how poor visibility is for 5.8GHz. Visibility is insanely limited, which is great for direction finding. I connected this antenna to my video monitor with two 5.8Ghz receivers and was able to pick up the video signal from the plane that I lost in the desert. I followed this trail into the desert and was able to find and return my plane in 15 minutes. That alone was worth the cost of this antenna due to its dual use. In ham radio it's called "fox hunting" when using a high gain patch antenna to find lost stations. A very useful skill for following radio shows. I did not connect this antenna to analyze the SWR of this antenna. But I'd say it's a decent antenna as I've never had power outages in flight and have been able to recover my plane. I would defiantly use this as a Wi-Fi antenna where range is a limiting factor. Just note the limited viewing angle. win more. small antenna viewing angle. If you notice why your computer is having poor Wi-Fi reception, keep playing around with the antenna's position. You want it to focus on where your computer is located in the house or living space you live in. Ideally you want more output power with a low gain omnidirectional antenna or in the right place on your Wi-Fi router, but high gain antennas are great. if you are limited by the performance and location of the router.

Pros
  • Dimensions: 167.3 x 66 x 18mm - SWR: 2.0:1 max
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
