Review on Professional Electric Dog Fence Wire Dogs by Carrie Williams

Sturdy, easy to install, should stand the test of time

I purchased this item to use with the SportDog floor system. I'm glad I did - the wire that comes with pre-packaged systems is very flimsy compared to this wire. The actual copper conductor in the Monster brand cable is 2.5 times thicker than the material supplied with the system. The big difference is in the insulating coating - this wire has a very thick coating - it is at least as thick as the wire. When it comes to work, a thinner gauge wire will work just as well as a heavier gauge wire for most in-ground dog fences. However, this assumes the wire is intact, and that's where buying a better wire comes in. I spent the day digging in the yard, running cables, etc. I don't want to do it again. Is always. So I was willing to spend a little more to get something that I think will last a long time. Perhaps the only downside to this cable is that it can be difficult to twist (where you want the signal to go). If you're not careful, the wire will twist on itself, forming loops of twisted wire. To solve this problem, attach the free ends of the cable to something like an 18" circuit board. Anchor the wire where you want the coils to end, then take the board and start twisting it. If you keep pulling on the wire, it will twist properly. Maintain tension on the twisted part while attaching it. Finally, when it comes to installation, heavier gauge wire makes everything easier. easier to pull in place without worrying about breaking the wire or tearing the protective cover. With the help of a kid just ten years old, I was able to thread the entire coil of wire around the yard in about ten minutes. I wasn't worried about the wire rubbing against the branch. , nor that slight tension can break the wire.
