Review on StarTech Com Power Splitter Adapter PYO4SATA by Tammy Hines

Good Design: Cables and Connections

I bought a 4-way splitter because I had a power supply in a box where one of the connectors just didn't fit. I needed a simple extension cord, not a splitter, but this four prong plug cost about the same. Turns out I was assembling a computer as soon as I received it and the PSU was incompatible. I ended up using an old PSU with a single SATA power connector. Then I realized the elegance of this design, since in most cases the hard drive bays and the optical drive bays are lined up. This meant that instead of a bunch of vacant connectors on each end of a group of wires, I had something that neatly followed the line behind my drives and needed to be connected to a connector from the power supply. If you need a simple splitter, or have drive bays in different positions in the case, this might not be a huge benefit, or you might just use external connectors. But it's still a viable option for the price. If you need to add two or more slots to drives installed in a bay, this is the best solution I've seen aside from replacing the power supply. Despite this, the power supplies do not have four connectors on the same cable group. So if you have a RAID array and an optical drive, adding another drive and using the existing power supply slots can be a logistical challenge even if the number of slots is sufficient. This makes this solution very flexible in price, which can offer you what you need and possibly more.
