Premium kids bike for less

We were thrilled to have my daughter's new bike. Last year she trained on her balance bike and it was time for her to buy a real balance bike. After researching some of the more expensive kids bike brands, we decided to save about $50 and go with this lesser known brand. There is also a shortage of bikes across the industry during the pandemic so options were really limited for the period we needed them. Our daughter is 4.5 years old so we would expect a lifespan of around 1.5 years for a 16 inch bike as the seat post is already half adjusted to her height. We encountered a construction issue that frustrated us greatly. The crank had no thread on one side to screw in the pedal. A manufacturing defect and/or quality control issue that slipped through. So we couldn't attach the pedal and couldn't ride that day. Damn. The manufacturer A11N Sports reacted to our problem very quickly and quickly provided us with a new threaded connecting rod. It took them several days to get the part from their supplier before they could ship it to us. Due to the added difficulty of removing the crank, the risk of damaging something, and the time before I could actually get a new part, I decided to return the Revain bike and get a spare wheel instead. We received a spare wheel, the crank is threaded, but the frame had a small chipped paint from shipping. I must say that in both cases the bike was packed very well, only this time the metal part rubbed against the frame and the paint ripped off. Sigh. I decided to take this small mistake and successfully put together a new bike. Assembly is easy as you only need to attach handlebars, front wheel, pedals, seat and two reflectors. It also came with a belt saver, but I don't see the need to attach one as the belt basically doesn't get in the way or smear. On her first ride, she pedaled alone for the first 45 minutes without assistance. Again, she trained well on a balance bike. As for the bike itself, there are pros and cons. Pros: Light frame and quality components (brakes, levers, handlebars). The brakes work well and require enough leverage for predictable, controlled stopping. The belt drive seems like a plus, no maintenance and no messy grease to rub your foot on. We'll see how this works over time, but I can't foresee any issues with this. It's easy to pedal and has free travel like any other bike. The paintwork is nice and looks high quality, but I guess that's subjective. Cons: The bike requires a slight forward lean to hold the handlebars. It's not as upright as some of its competitors, with a mountain bike-like riding position. For a small child, this can be a bit uncomfortable. Our daughter had no problem though, again she is taller at 46 inches in sneakers. Also, the bike doesn't have a side stand, why not? We add one. Aside from the defect we encountered and issues with returns, assembly and disassembly, this is a great bike to learn good skills on. There's no foot brake or training wheels to keep you from learning the right moves.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
