This stake sticks well to the ground. I have a Siberian Husky that is good on a leash and on a leash. He gets a little nervous when we're at the baseball field and other dogs show up to say hello to, so the stake saw him get pulled and all. But it never turned up even in dry crumbly soil. Sometimes it is difficult to screw it into the ground. I recommend getting a metal rod (or a sturdy wooden handle) that goes through the triangular loop at the top of the pen. Screwing it into hard ground is a lot easier when you have that kind of leverage to turn it.
