Works great with Japanese knives. I suspect a lot of the people defaming this are trying to sharpen European/American knives that were made with a 20 degree grind. Mac knives, like most Japanese knives and this sharpener, are sharpened at 15 degrees, so this won't work on them. many use. None of them "sharpen" the knife, they just correct the burr that forms with use. Sharpening knives is not an easy task. Get a whetstone or sharpener from Chef's Choice if you really want to sharpen your knives, but prepare to learn a little.
