Review on Upgrade your Jeep Wrangler with Voswitch Overhead Control Panel πŸš™ and Source Box: 8-Switch Pod with Blue Backlight for JK JKU 2007-2018 by Scott Rodriguez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality product.: Multifunctional

I understand those tough S-Pod types. I couldn't imagine spending 400.00 on switches and I'm glad I stumbled across this. I was afraid the quality wouldn't be, but the quality is excellent! The ONLY issue I have with them that I can solve myself is that the block that goes under the hood is only held by two fender bolts and therefore the block bounces around a bit. But the device is of excellent quality! All-metal construction with a real circuit board inside that looks premium. Out of curiosity I went to their website and even if this board fails, which I'm not expecting, you can even buy a replacement for 35.00 which is epic. Don't get me wrong, I understand R&D on these types of items so I understand you can't give them away for free but for the price this unit is very good as opposed to 400.00 for an S-POD system . You have several configuration options, whether you want this to turn on with your ignition accessory, or you want it to turn on with a touch switch (default), which works really well by the way. Dimming at the push of a button also works well. I was very impressed with the build quality of this device. I'm a self-proclaimed electronics engineer (yes, that's what I went to school for) but got a job in IT and I have to say that this product was well thought out and executed. I am very happy with my purchase other than wishing I had access to other switch covers. I bought a few from Revain hoping to just drop by but they are slightly different so the lights don't glow the same and the switches are a slightly different style but it's hard to tell other than the lighting. I needed fairly standard "fog lights" and semi-custom "whiplash lights". So if anyone knows where to find the same ones as in this product please let me know. The seller has not yet responded to my request. So, now to the technical part. The derailleur block simply slides over the Lakaien loop and although it's double-sided taped, you can attach the rear to an overhead post. You can also use the two screw holes to attach it with small screws for the off-road tough guys. Wiring is easy. The control box itself has a wiring harness that is a one-pin connection to the upper control box. You then just connect the big power and ground wires to the battery and everything else is just relay contacts on a very well placed board. The numbering goes from top to bottom, so pay attention to the screen printing on the circuit board. One note: you don't have to use the ground wire on the board. If you are connecting the device to the rear of the vehicle, simply connect a power lead to the positive terminal of the relay and ground the device to ground at the rear of the vehicle instead of two wires. If you have a ground sensitive device you can connect the ground and power wires together, but the only connection the relay actually controls is the positive wire and the ground plane is wired together on the PCB. can move a wire and run to your ignition or if you just have lights hooked up to a switch you can hook it up to your dash and it will also light up along with your dash. That would be an odd case, but it's possible. One of the great features is the automatic shutdown below a certain voltage. Haven't tested this yet but will test it with lab equipment to make sure it cycles off and back on at the specified voltage which again was a really nice touch for this product. I could see how it saves people who fall asleep on this pod with the lights on. I thought 8 switches would be overkill for me, but it turns out that's not the case. I use each of the switches and honestly could have used a different one, but it works exactly as expected and I'm very happy with the purchase. Haters will of course hate. Die-hard S-POD boys will always be happy with this product, but from my electronics experience I can assure you this unit is well built and will last. One thing I haven't done yet, but I will do and update this weekend. The review is intended to do some real world testing of how much current the switch bank draws when the device is on, but no switches. So basically the device is on and the lights (all the LEDs) come on and you see what the power consumption is. I assume it will be very low and leaving the switch on for a few days still won't drain your battery. So, the to-do list for this weekend, which I'll cover in this recap next week. Check the shutdown voltage. Voltage that restores power. Check the power consumption with the device turned on, but without the switches in the on position. (So only the block caught fire) My overall rating is 4 1/2 stars. Subtract 1/4 because of the lack of support in the engine bay, which probably works for most people anyway. That's not bad, but it can bounce in severe off-road conditions. 1/4 star for the lack of a switch cover. Yes, it comes at 15, but what about those it doesn't come with? Individual service or links to other switches compatible with this device. I usually think I round up to 4 stars but I just can't bring myself to do it. This is a quality product and a lot better than I expected to be honest. So I'll pull myself together before testing this weekend. Even if I don't get a response from the seller before I update my rating the following week after testing, I will downgrade it to 4 stars (rounded down) even if the testing goes as planned, as the seller doesn't respond to additional ratings switch covers.
