It does the job as advertised and if you want to change the Wi-Fi settings on your smart device every time you want to use it you can check the status of your trickle charge controller. (In my opinion this would not be practical). However, I planned to reconfigure the device software (following YouTube's commendable instructions) so that I could connect to monitoring software running permanently on the PC. It would be great. Unfortunately, epever has changed the internal software so that this is no longer possible. I sent an email to customer service asking about the old firmware and they replied that the hardware was also changed so the old firmware is unusable. I have found a very good alternative solution for anyone who has a soft spot for do-it-yourselfers. I installed a program called virtualhere (free single device license available) on a Raspberry Pi. This program redirects USB connections to any remote computer over a Wi-Fi/Ethernet network. It works reliably to connect to my epever/tracer in my garage and to remotely control the epever software in my house.
