As a cyclist I want a helmet that offers adequate protection and is still light and compact. Ideally I could put this helmet in my bag and forget about it until I need it again. Needs (highest to lowest): 1) Light - I won't wear it if it's too heavy. 2) Safe - why bring it if it doesn't protect your head? 3) Compact - easy to pack away so you don't have to occasionally carry a helmet around. 4) Flattering - I'm a designer, I'm an AF aesthete. 1) Unfortunately this one weighs 450g and my MIPS Lazer Blade+ bike helmet weighs 287g. Uncomfortably heavy. Heavier than the helm of a thousand. 2) Is it safe? Well the walls are super thick but it doesn't have MIPS so let's call it balanced 3) It's not that compact - it feels like you're carrying a spare pair of sneakers with you. The same bag I put this helmet in fits my other helmet. Finally, I prefer to carry a lighter bag. 4) My head is 22.5" and barely too big for a small size so I had to go for medium/large. He looks big on me. I get the Toad vibes from Mario, not the cool urban commuter whose helmet was on display at MoMA. Getting the fit right requires the back adjustment to be fully tightened and thicker pads to be fitted, which would be nice apart from all the issues mentioned above. For all these reasons he comes back.
