Great versatile product, GREAT customer service

This is a great product with GREAT customer service. I had many questions about this product, especially after reading a review of a competitor's product that had a safety issue and wanted to make sure this product didn't have the same issue. After asking a few questions about Revain, Roger at Pac2Go personally sent me a few emails to clarify my question and tested the product with a volt meter to make sure his product actually had this issue. (This problem is documented here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3MV91M2VJPB32 and occurs with several "universal" travel adapters.) I received the product very quickly and did my own review just for fun. to make sure it's safe. There is! Limitations: Although the device accepts 3-prong grounded ("earthed") plugs, it does NOT provide grounding at the outlet (if present). This is an understandable trade-off, as a "universal" adapter with grounding prongs is difficult to manufacture, very bulky, and unnecessary for many, many devices (e.g. electric shavers, hair dryers, extra USB chargers, etc.). This is not a criticism; it's just a description of what the device is and isn't. For example, my laptop has a grounding plug, so I won't be using it with my laptop. If your laptop only has a two-pin connector, you should have no trouble using it with this adapter. Also note that this device does not convert voltage. If you live in a 110 volt country and travel in a 220 volt country (or vice versa) you need to test your devices to make sure they can handle both voltages. Most, but NOT ALL, things that people typically travel with are dual voltage devices that work great with this adapter. Most electric shavers and most laptops (see laptop note above) will set up automatically. Some hair dryers have a 110/220 volt switch so you can travel with them, but you have to put the switch in the right position or you'll destroy it. Of course there are exceptions - most electric shavers I've had are dual voltage, but the one I'm using now isn't. (Most USB chargers are dual-voltage and auto-adjust, but this one has a built-in dual-voltage USB charger, so you don't need to bring a USB charger unless you want more than two USB devices charge at the same time.) Advantages: 1) One compact device that doubles as a dual USB charger* AND* a plug adapter for 2-pin devices/sockets almost everywhere in the world, including 110V countries (Northern and Central America). , Caribbean, Japan, Taiwan, etc.) and 220V countries (Europe, Middle East, most of Africa, most of Asia). You can leave your USB charger at home and just take one with you and use it like you do at home 2) All the end caps can be removed or folded away so they don't poke holes in your pocket or snag on objects. It also comes with a small pouch that protects it from dust etc. and also makes sure it doesn't get snagged on objects. Current device such as iPad. (I tested this with a real iPad.) 4) The socket will fit almost any plug type, except for the 'big' South African plug I think. If you buy a device while traveling, you can use it with your home devices as well as your other devices. 5) Plugs for different countries are NOT connected internally, which is a safety feature (problem mentioned above). .5) A 6 amp fuse is included to protect both all connected devices and the built in USB charger. 6) Built-in spare fuse in case the fuse blows. (But don't just replace the fuse and use it again the same way!) CONS: 1) The description claims surge protection, but the traditional surge protection specifications (clamping voltage, suppression joules) seem unreachable. A fuse protects your devices from over-voltage, but (maybe?) not over-voltage. 2) Although the adapter does NOT provide a ground connection to the outlet, the device will accept a three prong grounded plug which may give a naive user a false sense of security. Conclusion: This is a great device and I would highly recommend it if you plan to travel the world with USB chargeable devices (cellphones etc) and dual pin devices. I suggest not using it with devices with grounded plugs. UPDATE: The seller's website with more product information can be found here: http://www.pac2go.com
