In less than 6 months all 3 of them I bought started giving false alarms too often. The first in our bedroom started a few months after purchase. The batteries showed almost full capacity when they started to run out (the battery level is reported to Smart Things via ZWave), and none of them showed less than 79%. There was no smoke or other occurrences in our home. Conditions weren't particularly dusty and 2 of the 3 were installed away from ceiling fans (I've read that this can cause false alarms with this type of detector, but there was no way to fully isolate the detector in our bedroom). I'll admit I haven't hit the test button every week, the siren scares the shit out of our dogs, but it shouldn't matter that the detectors are working properly. After some research on the internet I vacuumed the sensor area. I read on one that went off 3 times a month that the photoelectric sensors are very sensitive to dust, but they weren't installed in a dusty location, and even after that I had another false alarm within a week.
