Bad Right Bar End: Bars, Headsets & Stems

Trying to install (and then troubleshoot) these bar ends, I found out all about the clamp and bar end diameters on mountain bikes while trying to figure it out if there was a problem with my bike or something similar. No, on mountain bikes they all have a standard diameter of 22.2mm. While troubleshooting, I've learned that the central area where the handlebar attaches to the stem of the bike can be of different diameters, but the rest of the handlebar tube on mountain bikes is always 22.2mm. (So any brand of brakes, shifters or grips will work with any handlebar.) So those bar ends felt great and were very ergonomic in design. But they just didn't fit right, or rather, ONE didn't fit. I managed to tighten the left end of the handlebar to keep it from slipping, but after repeated efforts the right end remained too loose. I fiddled with the clamp mechanism, cleaned and scraped off the rubber and metal spurs in the clamp at the end of the bar which I thought might be interfering with the tightening process, checked online to see if there was a hack or workaround. In desperation, I ended up simply trying to put Gorilla tape on the handlebars to increase the outer diameter, which made nothing but a mess because of course it only smeared under the still loose end clamp of the handlebars. It's a shame such a great design, shape and quality rubber but apparently there are serious quality control issues. Those rod ends are in my trash can. Wouldn't buy again.
