For my job of writing, reviewing and commenting on contracts I need a good scanner. So when I had the opportunity to work from home from time to time, I figured that buying a good scanner would make it a lot easier. At first our scanner/printer/fax seemed like a good option in a cannon, but since then it started drawing a line halfway through my documents and often gave an error (especially during the urgent verification process) and took a very long time to scan , and I was too frustrated not to buy a dedicated scanner. After reading the reviews and realizing that it has a TWAIN driver that scans directly into my Adobe Acrobat Professional software, it was a winner! Who needs more software on your computer?!?! Right out of the box I had a little problem trying to get the latest driver, yari yari yari, then I put the CD in, updated everything that was required, plugged it in and off we went. Super fast (probably faster than a $20,000 industrial copier/scanner in the office as it scans both sides at once), I didn't set anything up, it automatically detects the content on the back of the page and scans it. . The problem is that it detects nicks and marks on the back of a blank page - but nothing that plain old "ERASE" can't solve. The machine is simple, very easy to use and suitable for the office. purposes, not only does it serve my purpose, but it does it beautifully. I never thought I'd spend $300 on a scanner since some people give scanners away for free. but it's a worthwhile investment. I love it so much that I've started scanning all the children's stuff - playing a little with the new tech toys, which I haven't done in a long time. I highly recommend this product, especially if you don't want to have a scanner with your own software conflicting with your Acrobat software; This is very important to me because I just can't stand dealing with two programs and since I work from a work laptop, adding software to my computer is a big taboo and frowned upon. The worst is when you download new software that slows down your laptop; it's so annoying! I don't have this problem and plug in my personal laptop, my work laptop and my designer Mac - everything works fine! I love it! ----------------UPDATE: Sorry I've been inundated with work lately, I can't write or update reviews. Someone asked about scanning pictures (Amazon emailed me this question). Yes, it scans images in color. I assume that since my conversion software forces the scanner to scan directly to a PDF, there are other options available (I haven't had time to try those options), but the PDF scan comes out in color if you ' rescan a colored object. Image quality is very good, but if you scan an imperfect image, every detail, good or bad, will be captured. I checked while scanning a postcard and the image looked grainy, but upon closer inspection of the postcard I realized that this grain was part of the image and not the image quality of the scanner (I hope not, not many people buy $300 for scanners over $400). It scanned the image very quickly (at the same speed as black and white, which is pretty damn good if you ask me). Please note: if you scan an image and receive a PDF file, you can load it into Illustrator or Photoshop to correct/edit it or experiment with it in any way you like. That's more than I can ask for or need.
