SSD, 3.5" hard drives, 2.5" hard drives, whatever, I've used them with this adapter. I downloaded operating systems from it to my MacBook Pro. I edited a 1080p 60fps video with an SSD. My Time Machine backup, video project archive, Pro Tools sessions, scratch disks, boot disks, they all live inside the computer case and power supply. I hastily plugged in this adapter and they have never randomly ejected or performed worse than expected. When using smaller USB docking stations, I had to keep the power cords away from interference to prevent accidental removal. The power supply cables (DC and AC ends) resist interference well, even in the cable jungle behind my case. My only concern is that I wasted a lot of time and mental space assembling an 8-bay Thunderbolt case. (It will fit any drive size, by the way. Not all cases will fit both sizes.) This setup is also less portable than, say, an OWC or Areca case. For my next project I will develop a portable version for one or two drives.
