Review on Mugen Rev CPU Cooler Support by Jazz Rajasingam

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great cooler for the price and works great with AM4 Ryzen processors.

I installed this Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B air cooler on an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor in a new system I built myself last week. Installation is easy. You simply switch mounts with the included hardware and a screwdriver, then screw them into place. The cooler offers enough space for four DDR4 memory sticks and the fan can be positioned at the necessary height to easily keep it above the memory. In addition, mounting the fan on the slats is very easy thanks to the supplied hinges. This was probably the easiest CPU cooler install in the 20 years since I first installed it, and I really appreciate it. That's one thing I struggle with less. As for performance. The case I'm currently using is a bit hot, but this cooler has proven effective in keeping CPU temperatures down even under load. My idle CPU temperatures averaged around 45C, with temperatures hitting the mid-60s under heavy loads, and CPU temperatures hovered just under 65C during last week's CPU-Z benchmarks. Considering the NZXT H510i case currently in use is only powered by standard internal fans, which have averaged around 80°F over the past week, that's pretty impressive for an air cooler. Once I replace my current case with the Phanteks P600S I ordered and set up proper case cooling, I expect both idle and peak temperatures to be significantly cooler. I really don't see any downsides to this cooler. like design or performance. I would like a slightly stronger fan. This one is very quiet, but a little more air pushed through the fins would be nice. If I have one complaint it's that the fan I have with my cooler is slightly off center and wobbles a bit when spinning. This is more noticeable in the center of the fan than on the outer edges of the blades. While this doesn't seem to affect the overall performance of the cooler, as far as I can tell I would expect the fan to wear out significantly faster as a result. However, this isn't significant enough to increase noise or cause other problems, so the hassle of replacing it wasn't worth it. Overall I'm happy with the performance of this cooler in the current conditions and look forward to next week to see how it performs in the case with improved airflow. For those who don't want to bother with water cooling, especially considering the issues. Water cooling is provided for AMD Ryzen processors, which is a good option. In terms of performance, it's very similar to Noctua. I personally like the look and the price. If you are looking for a CPU air cooler, this one is definitely worth considering.
