I've been updating my Dell XPS 400 for a while and finally the moment came when I needed a new sound card. I was looking for Revain and came across this. The price was right, it gave me what I was looking for; Upgrading an old sound card to the latest technology, giving me additional audio options (like Stereo Mix) that my old card didn't have. I was initially hesitant to purchase after reading a number of reviews about installing on Windows 7. I'm fairly tech savvy and figured you'd have to be a bit unconventional to install this thing. I took the risk and bought a ticket. It arrived today and installation was easy. Very easy after reading the reviews and doing it yourself. The card installed in less than five minutes and the surround sound played exactly how I wanted it to. For those of you who are wandering around here needing help and have a Windows 7 computer, don't be afraid to buy this card. Here's what I did with some other browsers: 1) Before installing the card on your computer, go to the Diamond website and download the latest drivers for Win7 here: diamondmm dot com / XS71 dot php 2) The drivers are zipped , so unzip them to your desktop so they're ready to install as soon as you boot up your computer after installing the map. 3) Turn off the computer and install the card in a free PCI slot. 4) Restart - according to the manual, the old sound card should be deactivated in the bios. I did not do it. You can manually uninstall old sound card drivers in Device Manager. 5) After Windows restarts and starts, it will automatically attempt to install the standard Windows audio drivers. If you can stop the installation. I wasn't fast enough for this, but even then Windows couldn't find a driver for the card. If for some reason it detects these generic drivers, uninstall them. 6) Navigate to the Diamond driver unzipped folder and click on the .EXE file to begin installing the driver. 7) Reboot the system after installation. And you must be ready to go. You should notice a lot of advanced recording options. Also, you should see C-Media PCI Audio Device as a new sound card. If you see other audio codecs (e.g. Sigmatel) just remove them, you don't need them anymore. All I can say is that my music and sound is much clearer and richer with this card. So far I'm very happy with it, but I'm not an audiophile so I most likely couldn't pass a typical frequency domain test. But for those of us who don't have the same hearing as audiophiles, this card should provide what you're looking for. I hope this review was helpful!
