Great strut with MOOG 81114

So I used them with Moog 81114 coil springs and KYB SM5395 strut mounting kit on my 2002, not XL, 4WD Envoy SLE. This combination was confusing at first. I read another review that said they used this combination, but I couldn't get any answers on how they got it to work. It seemed the springs were too bulky for the frame. BUT IT WAS NOT. So here's what you need to do. First, buy a pair of HEAVY DUTY coil spring compressors. The coil spring is the correct height compared to the OEM, but there's more metal and more coils within the MOOG height. Then compress these springs as tightly as possible (the coils almost touching). I removed the compression spring pins because I needed to compress them more than the pins would allow. I tried using traditional spring compressors, but the result quickly became patchy, so I gave up. Once the springs are compressed you can attach the KYB strut mount (no washers). Then loosen the spring. I've had people say their springs swelled when the compression was released, but I haven't. After the spring compression was held by the post, I had to use a large screwdriver and pry bar to pry the compression tool out (it came out). I chipped some paint off the feathers but repainted them and they look great. The trip is fantastic! Also, for the 2002 Envoy, I only took the lower link nut of the strut and the end links of the stabilizer bar to replace. There is a good video on YOU TUBE. In any case, good luck. I've been driving mine for a month now and it's like a dream.
