It took a lot of effort to get this to work. I read the instructions on how to get it to block and it still didn't work. I asked someone else to try it and it still didn't work. I ended up taking it to the store and they just made it. It's easier to get it working in a horizontal position than to keep the protective port up. I should have guessed. The actual mechanism seems to work by inserting a T-latch into a standard laptop security port and then turning the key on the small pins, preventing the latch from turning. The other end wraps around something else. It's easier to attach without the rubber on the end, but then the metal will rub around the connector. The port on my laptop (Gateway P-6860FX) is a bit worn out from all my amateurish attempts to get it to work. Now that it works for me, it snaps securely into place, assuming I can find something equally secure to hold it in place.
