Review on πŸ”₯ Powerful BOSS Audio AR1600.4 Car Amplifier - 1600 Watts, Full Range Sound, Class A/B, Stable Ohm, Mofet Power Supply, Bridgeable by Heather Richardson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The power rating is way too high

The power rating of 1600W is way too high. They won't even come close until the amp's protection circuitry shuts down the amp. We suggest dividing the declared power by a factor of 4 or 5, the actual power will be closer to the total of 300 or 400 watts. I'm using a pair of 300W (150W RMS) Pyle speakers with an impedance of 4 ohms and dimensions of 4" x 10". I had to connect the outputs to get anywhere near the speakers' distortion (maximum output) level, and I never experienced distortion before the amp's protection circuitry tripped. I looked at three of these Boss AR1600 and thought it was a defect. Same lack of power response on all three. After looking at some product reviews on YouTube, it seems natural for any amp manufacturer to lie about more power. If you want to drive four simple 4 ohm door-sized speakers, you need two of these amplifiers and bridge them. Also the 50 amp fuse is a joke. I use two of these amps in parallel with a built in 15 amp fuse, no problem, so they don't draw nearly as much current as they claim (according to the limited power output). At least it simplifies the installation of the fuse. Yes, I've resigned myself to using the second of these amps to power a pair of 4" x 6" 250W 4 ohm speakers (Boss BE464) for a total of four speakers (requires two amps) . Both amplifiers are bridged.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • A lot
