Great for long hikes

We took this backpack on an 8.5km uphill hike through rugged terrain, steep slopes and all sorts of obstacles. Our dog is a 9.5 pound Pomeranian and it was almost perfect for him. The overall structure was rigid enough to perfectly retain its shape even with all of the top window grilles removed. Shoulder straps are not the same as a good travel backpack. They're fairly simple in design, have little padding, and can rub a little when carrying a heavy dog a long distance. Chest strap and hip belt are well thought out. The waist straps also need improvement and don't fit everyone perfectly, but they're better than nothing and help with heavier loads or longer distances to just take some weight off your shoulders. The window design and location are fantastic. The fact that each window can be unzipped was very helpful. We found that our little one loved sticking his head out of the side windows just like a lot of dogs do in a car. The top center window can be partially opened to prevent it from opening too far. The bottom middle window can be opened when the backpack is on. Land so that the dog can use it more easily as a small den. Big size. It's about the size you want to wear on your back. The side pockets are good too. We put a bowl and some food in it. The harness that prevents the dog from jumping out is not perfectly positioned. Our dog never tried to jump on us when he was airborne, but I wouldn't trust a harness if he did. On the one hand, if it were a buckle that wouldn't come loose, it could be dangerous if the dog jumps, and maybe it's more, to offer some resistance, just suggest to the dog not to jump out, not him to keep completely indoors. In addition, dressing and undressing is a kind of two-person operation. The dog's weight will cause it to lean/sway if you do it yourself. You'll probably want to wear the shoulder straps when crouching or kneeling. If the dog suddenly shifts its weight when you try to put it on your back, you could accidentally drop the backpack with the dog in it. From a safety standpoint, I think it's best to put it on and take it off while crouching to minimize risk. And if someone else lifts/holds it, it becomes much, much easier. The only thing I would change is: 1. Use more ergonomic and possibly padded shoulder straps like the best packs or backpacks. This carries the significant weight quite far off your back, so better harnesses are likely to be appreciated, especially for heavier dogs. An internal dog collar strap with velcro to keep the dog inside could be better. It should be placed at a lower and more central point and be long enough to reach the window collar on either side or the back.3. It would be nice if the underside were made of a more durable and dirt-repellent material and some rubberized edges or feet could make it safer to put it down on the floor. Overall I would recommend this if your dog is the right size/weight, used to being carried to some degree and doesn't mind small dens or kennels. I would caution children against using this with a dog. Its structure offers little protection if someone trips over it or drops it.
