I have a Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 and decided to test it. It is significantly faster than the iX500 (35/70 ppm vs. 25/50 ppm) and costs less. However, the included software is complete crap compared to the sleek and easy to use software that comes with the iX500. Epson should be seriously ashamed of how bad their native software is. Amazingly bad. On the other hand, this scanner is TWAIN compatible while the iX500 is not. As a result, I was able to bypass Epson's terrible software and use Adobe Acrobat to launch the scanner, which works pretty well. It's quiet, fast and doesn't slow down. If I didn't have Adobe Acrobat to run the scanner I would return it (that's how bad Epson's software is).
