Type of review

I bought this item in December, it's now February and it no longer works. It just produces a series of garbage scans. The scans look like a screen full of distorted colored lines, does that make sense? Probably as consistent as my review now. He only managed to get a few scans before deciding to screw it up. Guess you get what you pay for? The parts also feel very cheap and flimsy - compared to the Fujitsu (which I had before, and although it was also plastic, it felt "heavier"). And while it…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Large and bulky

Questionable Mac software

The scanner seems to work very well. However, the software is a bit wonky and clunky, which is what I would expect from Epson on a Mac. In fact, their main installer didn't work at all in High Sierra, so I had to download separate programs. The good news is that you don't need their software at all. Basic scanner functionality can be accessed through the Mac's built-in software, including preview and image capture, and it's a lot easier. I'll probably completely ignore their software and it…

You must buy this scanner

I wrote a review earlier today and advised you not to buy this scanner. I kept having scan errors and scanner freezes. Spent almost an hour with tech support. Nothing we did helped, the scanner stopped working and displayed error codes. I actually had a return package the second time I decided to contact Epson support. The technician advised me to uninstall the flatbed scanner software, the flatbed scanner was a different brand that I only used to scan slides and negatives. I was skeptical but…

I'm very disappointed with this product right now. I've been working very hard to get this thing connected to my computer but it just won't connect. So I tried my laptop and won't connect I've tried my desktop in the basement won't connect I've tried wiring it to my work computer first before taking it home this thing WON'T WORK I have others in my office that work but something keeps going wrong with the ES-400 and it's a constant connection problem damn it can't print because of the spool…

I LOVE THIS SCANNER! EXCELLENT hitting out of the water!

I have used the NEAT scanning system and got used to it. With two magazines that I own/publish, I scan many documents, receipts, invoices, subscriptions, etc. on a daily basis. I used the NEAT scanner/system as they were fairly new and worked well enough that I bought a second NEAT scanner after the first one started jamming. I could try to fix this, but I found it on God's Gift to Struggling Business Owners (Craigslist) for a very reasonable price. Now my MacBook Pro has (finally) been updated

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Compatibility

Refurbished not as good as promised

I bought 3 of these for my office. This is the first time I've bought anything refurbished. They were easy to assemble with no problems. The first scanner failed within 48 hours. A piece fell off. looks like some kind of feed wheel. The next day, the second scanner stopped responding to scan requests from the computer. We scan no more than 100 pages per day with a single scanner. Old EPSON scanners have been in use for more than 6 years without any problems, but were too slow for the employees.

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Great price but you need alternative software

I have a Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 and decided to test it. It is significantly faster than the iX500 (35/70 ppm vs. 25/50 ppm) and costs less. However, the included software is complete crap compared to the sleek and easy to use software that comes with the iX500. Epson should be seriously ashamed of how bad their native software is. Amazingly bad. On the other hand, this scanner is TWAIN compatible while the iX500 is not. As a result, I was able to bypass Epson's terrible software and use Adobe…

  • Great selection

Good fast dual scanner but I only buy it when I need a dual scanner

I have three Epson scanners to compare and see which one works best. I have ES-400, ES-500W and DS-1630. I also have a DS-510 that's a few years old and I'm comparing it. I'm a computer engineer working with a large number of small healthcare organizations. I prefer Fujitsu Snapscan scanners, but many offices require dual scanning to integrate with their software. Fujitsu scanners that support two scanners are quite expensive, so I prefer to use Epson for offices that need two scanners. I…
